Clarity is the foundation of progress

How to contact your Local Government Chairman

Apr 5

Common misconception

Many people don't know who their LGA Chairman is or how to reach them, so they direct complaints to the Governor instead.

How it actually works

Each of Nigeria's 774 LGAs has a Chairman and a Secretariat. Find your LGA name (it appears on your voter's card or you can ask at your ward). Visit the LGA Secretariat to meet the Works Department, Education Department, or Health Department depending on your issue. Some LGAs have complaint desks or public announcement (PA) systems for community feedback. Council meetings are often open to the public—attend and speak during the question time.

Why it affects everyday life

When you report a bad local road to the Governor, it may take months to filter down. When you report directly to your LGA Works Department, the person responsible gets your complaint immediately. Knowing your Chairman's name and office location turns you from a frustrated citizen into someone who knows exactly where to go.

Key Takeaway

Find your LGA name. Visit the Secretariat. Know your Chairman. Complain at the right desk—Works, Education, or Health.
